Now that you’ve heard the story of how I hooked that monster Smallmouth, let’s dive into the details of the fight and a little trick I use to keep my catches in check.

It’s always thrilling when you hook into a big fish, but keeping it on the line is another challenge. One trick I’ve learned over the years is a simple yet effective way to prevent your catch from jumping out of the water and spitting the lure.

As you’re fighting the fish, take the net you’ll be using to scoop your Smallmouth and gently tap the water’s surface with it. The small vibrations can help keep the fish from leaping, reducing the chances of it throwing the hook or getting off. It’s not 100% foolproof, but it works a great percentage of the time and has saved me from losing some monster catches.

This small but crucial tactic helped me land this beast and is a trick I swear by for those bigger, more aggressive fish.

What’s your go-to trick for keeping the fish on the line during a fight? Drop your tips in the comments or share your favorite catch story with us! Let’s keep this conversation going! 🎣🔥

In my next post, I’ll dive into the gear I was using, including a special trick with my favorite scented jig that helped seal the deal on that catch. Stay tuned, and keep your rods ready!
